Moza Banco donates to HCM the 1st surgical machine to treat hundreds of children
15/03/2021

Moza Banco donates a CO2 machine to Maputo Central Hospital in an initiative aimed at alleviating the suffering of hundreds of children suffering from laryngeal papillomatosis disease across the country.

Laryngeal papillomatosis is an uncommon disease in Mozambique, despite the fact that it affects hundreds of children.  The cure for this disease depends on a process called tracheostomy. The main objective of this process is to serve as a safe alternative respiratory cycle through a mechanical means for those suffering from the disease. The only contraindication for the procedure is the homeostatic alteration.

Laryngeal papillomatosis affects the health of children in many ways, including loss of voice pitch, tracheal tube obstruction, coughing and secretions among others. All these symptoms limit these children from living their normal life and enjoying normal activities such as running, playing, bathing, going to school and other activities that are essential at this stage of growth.

Moza Banco, aware of this situation, as part of its Social Responsibility, decided to donate the CO2 machine to the ENT Department of Maputo Central Hospital to enable the treatment of this disease.

“We decided to respond to this request to support the fight against this terrible disease and save the lives of many children in our country", explained the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Moza Banco, Dr João Figueiredo.

It should be noted that recently Moza Banco has also supported the Mavalane General Hospital and the Heart Institute with the objective of supporting the care and treatment of patients with Covid-19.

Moza Banco supports the rehabilitation of Mavalane General Hospital
05/02/2021

Moza Banco has just provided support for the rehabilitation of the Mavalane General Hospital, in order to provide greater and better care capacity to OVID-19 patients.

Moza Banco's support will consist of sanitary, carpentry and electrical material requested by the Mavalane General Hospital in order to ensure better preparation and adequate care of covid-19 patients.

The HGM is one of the oldest in Maputo City, serving patients from Mavalane district and all surrounding areas including all health centres in the municipal districts of KaMavota, KaMpfumo, KaMaxaquene and KaNyaka.

The hospital's management stated that "all buildings, facilities require hydraulic renovation, carpentry and electricity repairs to re-establish the healthy and comfortable environment not only for health professionals, but also for the community at large".

This need arises at a time when "the budget made available by the State is scarce and it is almost impossible to carry out activities related to these areas", reiterates the hospital's management.

The Chairman of Moza Banco, João Figueiredo, said that the institution he Chairs is committed not only to providing better services to its customers, but also to "but also in contributing at the most decisive moments in history".

“This is the moment that all Mozambicans would like to know how to contribute. So when this opportunity arose, we thought that we had to contribute to the fight against this disease that affects everyone", said João Figueiredo.

At this moment, Mavalane General Hospital has dozens of people hospitalized for various diseases and the numbers are increasing every day, which translates into a growing demand for limited conditions.

It is worth remembering that soon after covid-19's first cases in 2020, Moza Banco made a donation to the Instituto do Coração to support the care of covid-19 patients. Moza Banco's donation was used for unforeseen expenditure in the Institute's budget plan.

Specifically, this amount was intended for the purchase of medicines and protective equipment for health technicians, and also helped with the rehabilitation work on the physical structure to adapt to the strict isolation of these patients.
